The Society for Musicology is hosting Visiting Scholar Jeff Todd Titon at FSU this week. Dr. Titon, Professor of Music Emeritus at Brown University, will be giving a presentation titled “Toward a Sound Ecology” on Thursday, February 25, at 4:30pm in Longmire Recital Hall. A reception will follow his presentation in the KMU lounge, allowing for informal discussion with Dr. Titon.
Dr. Titon explains that his presentation “proposes the way we experience sound rather than texts or objects as a way of being in the world, knowing the world, and acting in the world. Sound connections invite communities and economies erected upon an ecological rationality that stresses cooperation and leads to economic, social, and environmental justice.”
This lecture should be of interest to those interested in music, as well as those interested in the social and natural sciences. We hope to see a diverse audience for this exciting presentation! The event is free and open to the public.
