Florida State’s Center for Music of the Americas and The Florida Folklife Program are very pleased to co-sponsor a two day residency by Afro-Cuban batá master drummer and drum maker Ezequiel Torres next week. Mr. Torres will be giving a performance and presentation on Thursday, September 6, and a student drumming workshop on Friday, September 7. Both of these events are free and open to the public, and specific details are as follows:
Thursday, Sept. 6: Free public performance and presentation, Mission Room, Mission San Luis, 2100 W. Tennessee St., 7-8:30 PM
Friday, Sept. 7: Student drumming workshop, Lindsay Recital Hall, FSU, Kuersteiner Music Building, 2:30-4:30 PM
Please take advantage of these two wonderful opportunities, as Mr. Torres is not only a master drummer, but also is Florida’s most recent National Heritage Award winner, and a previous recipient of the Florida Folk Heritage Award in 2008.
Instructors, please be sure to make announcements to your students about these events! We would like to have as many people as possible profit from his residency.
